The best way to protect pumps and water handling equipment from freezing temperatures is to place them in a heated or insulated building. If this is not an option, then completely drain the tank, pump, hoses and nozzle. It may be necessary to use compressed air to purge all the water from the system. Once all the water is removed, the unit can be stored outdoors or in an uninsulated building. Another option is to add some type of anti-freeze to the tank and allow it to circulate completely through the pump, hoses, and nozzle before storing in freezing temperatures (non-toxic RV anti-freeze is one option). If the temperatures are not going to be below freezing for an extended period of time, then a cover over the tank, pump, hoses, and nozzle with a heat lamp may be sufficient.
